KARUPALLI is a traditional rural crafts Sales Cum Display Centre. It is one of the marketing tools of poverty alleviation project of Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB). It is in fact, a supporting initiative in the form of a Display Centre and a marketing outlet for the various handicrafts & other products produced by the members of Co-operatives and assetless groups of BRDB. This Sales Cum Display Centre was opened in April 1989 with the exclusive Technical and Financial assistance of JICA implemented by Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV). At the beginning Karupalli got Initial Capital of 0.04 Million BDT from JOCV in kinds.
Since beginning KARUPALLI has been supporting the underprivileged rural artisans/producers through providing Training & Advice for upgrading the quality of Traditional Embroidery, Weaving, Sewing and Dying etc.
In the passage of time Karupalli has been able to establish a marketing linkage between the rural artisans and the customers. The main objective of Karupalli is to ensure fair price both of producers & customers level. Thus the producers have had the opportunity to promote the products, increase income & bringout changes in their life style.
You will be delighted to know that Karupalli has already opened its 2nd outlet at Dhanmondi. At present 15 employees are working at Karupalli.
Karupalli needs support for updating the fashions and designs to combat the present need & demand of the customers. It also needs capital support for enhancing its volume opening new outlet in Divisions & potential Districts to establish a central workshop cum training centre for the skill development of the producers.
